The bug affects Windows 10 and 11, could give hackers access to your device when you’re connected to a public Wi-Fi network.
Microsoft is warning customers about a vulnerability that could give hackers access to your device when you’re connected to a public Wi-Fi network, like at a airport or even coffee shop.
Microsoft says the vulnerability, CVE-2024-30078, gives hackers the ability to deploy a malicious packet to devices running Windows 10 and 11 that are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Once that packet has been deployed, the hackers could potentially run commands and gain access to your system without your knowledge.
The Verge notes that Microsoft has labeled the vulnerability as “important,” which is the second-highest rating the company has for security vulnerabilities.
The company rolled out a security update on June 11 that corrects the issue; however, in order for you to take advantage of it you’ll need to download the update.
You can check the microsoft website for more information about this update here.
